These lenses have been developed to help RP patients extend their field of vision. The lenses have a central part which acts as a normal lens but towards the outsides, left, right and down, a set-in prism shifts the visual image closer to the centre. The field gain at the sides is about 8 degrees and downwards about 6 degrees. The lenses are expensive and a certain amount of the visual picture is lost by the prism.
